The Essentials for Visiting the Blue Mountains
Yes, we highly recommend it! Lodging fills up fast, especially during peak seasons and event weekends. To ensure you get the most out of your stay, we recommend booking your accommodations, spa appointments, and specialized activities 2–4 weeks in advance.
Absolutely! There is always something happening in our neighborhoods, from live music circuits and art crawls to seasonal family festivals. To see what’s happening during your visit, check our full calendar.
While we are a premier four-season destination, we highly recommend exploring during our shoulder seasons (April–May and September–October). You’ll enjoy quieter trails, easier access to top-tier dining, and the stunning natural transition of the Escarpment landscape.
Very much so! Many of our local businesses allow dogs inside—look for the "Pet Friendly" signs on shop doors. Many outdoor patios and municipal trails also welcome leashed pets. Please remember to keep your furry friends on a leash at all times on public property.
You can enjoy the shores of Georgian Bay at Northwinds Beach, Thornbury Harbour, and Peasmarsh Beach.
Note: These areas utilize paid parking during the summer season to help maintain our beautiful waterfront.
It’s a common misconception! While the falls are the most famous part, the Niagara Escarpment is a massive rock ridge stretching 725 km across Ontario. It reaches its highest point right here in The Blue Mountains. This unique geography creates the perfect elevation for skiing and the microclimate that allows our famous apple orchards to thrive.
Navigating the names can be tricky! Here is the breakdown:
The Town of The Blue Mountains: The official municipality that encompasses several distinct communities, including Thornbury, Clarksburg, and Craigleith.

Blue Mountain Resort: The specific four-season alpine resort offering skiing, mountain attractions, and lodging.

Blue Mountain Village: The pedestrian-only "hub" located at the base of the resort. It is managed by the Village Association and is home to boutique shopping, dining, and major events.

Blue Mountain: A loose regional term used to describe the general area and the collective experience of the mountain and the bay.
While the Village itself is pedestrian-only, we recommend a vehicle or e-bike to truly experience our "Big Three" neighborhoods—The Village, Thornbury, and Clarksburg.

Public facilities are located at the Blue Mountain Village, North and South Base Lodges, the L.E. Shore Library in Thornbury, and at most major trailhead parking lots.
We are part of a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve. We ask all visitors to stay on marked trails to protect sensitive local flora and follow "Leave No Trace" principles. Please pack out everything you pack in to help keep our region beautiful!
